Hello, in my last issue of Retro News Flash, I covered the game Ghost N Goblins and ran a short report on it. It´s a really great game, I really liked it. All the best from Magisthan´s Spielekiste. 🙂
Incredible arcade perfect port from other planet.I love very much the GNG series,i have played everything and this port for the Amiga is just insane.Fantastic work and respect jotd666.
My longplay and if is possible i hope to see a perfect arcade port like this for Amiga version of Ghouls'n Ghosts.
great to see an expert player able to complete the game. Better even, the amiga version!
You may have noticed the bug at level 6 when the unicorns just go away. Hard to fix, probably very vicious. Apart from that best experienced in NTSC.
About Ghouls'n'Ghosts I'm sorry to say that it's not planned. 1) Not my cup of tea and 2) super hard to convert properly compared to that one. The amount of stages & huge bosses are just insane.
Excellent conversion (as always). Great fun! I did donate, of course.
To second Mahisthans request, I'd like to use up for jumping, too, as I'm using one of those CompetitionPro-like joysticks (but with 2 buttons). I'd be happy to use the 2nd button for the ladders, though, so a WHDLoad option to just switch UP and 2nd button would be fine for me and (assuming) not so hard to implement.
Keep up the excellent work. Would "Ghouls'n'Ghosts" be possible to convert, too? I wasn't so fond of that port back in the days (as opposed to Ghosts'n'Goblins, which I already liked a lot).
switching "up" and "second button" is super simple, but that won't help people with 1-button joystick I'm afraid.
Ghouls'n'ghosts has been requested many times already. It is an even bigger challenge (which partially explains the bad port), plus I'm not too fond of that one, so I'll focus on games I want to see.
True, this won't help the 1-btn-joystick-purists, but if it's super simple... pretty pleeeaaase? :-))
Ghouls'n'Ghosts: you're right, of course. Just had a proper look at some videos from the Arcade version and yes: this seems like quite another beast.
How about "Xain'd Sleena" (Soldiers of Light)? I was so disappointed by the Amiga port back then... but loved the kind-of-similar "Turrican" all the more (as we all did).
Haha... same here... I totally sucked... and still do. But I also still remember that strange feeling I got as a 13-year-old feeding this bloody machine with coins: "I have to stop, now, or I'll get addicted to it!" Not too long after that realisation I bought my first Amiga 500... money much better spent! :-)
I just don't think it's a very good game. Some nice scenery, sure, but the gameplay falters pretty badly. Inconsistent damage, cheap hits, seemingly random weapon gains, slooooowdown galore... you kind of get why Technos didn't make games outside the sports and fighting genres. When they tried, you'd get something like Xain'd Sleena.
yeah, good graphics, but I never could get the hang of it. It has a energy bar so it's not one hit death (or 2 hit death like Ghosts'n'Goblins) but the game doesn't seem fair. I had a friend who excelled as such games. He completed Xain in the arcades as well as ... Jail Break. Note: he also loved Brat on amiga. Go figure.
Because of the ladders, it would need some extra logic to replicate what Elite originally did for amiga Ghosts'N'Goblins. Personally I found the controls super frustrating with 1 button.
For me, it's exactly the opposite. I play all games of this type on the C64 or Amiga with a joystick. This two-button control is quite frustrating. But if it's not possible or too difficult to implement, then I'll just skip the Ghost N Goblins AGA version. I'll have a short report on Ghost N Goblins AGA in my Retro News Flash this coming Saturday.
Another great conversion of one of the most difficult arcade platform games. The additional options and the optional trainer are a fantastic bonus. Our German-language preview can be found at 01:18:11. English subtitles are also available. 🙂
Awesome! This addition is highly appreciated by many fans/gamers and coders which thought of redoing this port! You did it first! Keep up the great work!
Will there be a different score table for each difficulty in the final release?
PS. Maybe its too early to report bugs since you are still working heavily on it. There is a bug on v0.93 (probably earlier versions too) that crashes the WHDload slave when saving scores on game-over without using any initials (blank) (using option NoWriteCache) https://www.twitch.tv/amigalive/clip/AbstrusePlainStarlingFutureMan-7saVR1RVlOsZ...
I couldn't open the drawer after extracting the archive either. I ended up using shell to navigate into the drawer in command line and then ran the game by typing whdload ghostsngoblins_aga.slave. That worked, but the game is waaaay off to the right on my (pal) CRT monitor.
if someone packages it, probably. I don't know about the A500 mini, but there game comes as .lha with whdload, which the A500 mini supports well. I'm pretty sure someone can help you out.
thanks. The SFX are played mainly on channel 3, where less important notes of the song are played, using priorities. Important but rare sfx like xtra life are played on channel 2. It still needs some tuning but getting there.
Even though I did the article as soon as the itch io went live, just want to say as always here on IndieRetroNews I appreciate all the awesome releases JOTD!
Buttons are completed messed up with a Mega Multi adapter and a 8bitdo M30 2.4Ghz controller in CD32 pad mode. This usually works fine for all WHDLoad games with proper CD32 pad support.
edit: Awesome gameplay. But the scrolling is even worth than the Arcade original. Is this something you are still working on? Great job so far, as always.
I don't see the reason of the controller issue. My other ports have issues too?
For the scrolling, try 50Hz mode if your machine can bear it. Not sure if I can do better with my bad democoder skills. Someone suggested NTSC too. Worth a try.

You never cease to amaze and impress with your releases! Keep 'em coming good sir! Thanks for your works!

Fantastic port as usual. Are you also working on Final Fight Enhanced Final Version whdload install?
True, this won't help the 1-btn-joystick-purists, but if it's super simple... pretty pleeeaaase? :-))

I'll see what I can do.
Xain'N'Sleena was the absolute nightmare for me. I suck so much at that game despite numerous attempts to complete it. But it's a nice idea.
Haha... same here... I totally sucked... and still do. But I also still remember that strange feeling I got as a 13-year-old feeding this bloody machine with coins: "I have to stop, now, or I'll get addicted to it!" and Amiga version of Xain aka Soldier Of Light sucked shit! another disappointment.

Is it possible to get a normal Joystick setup? I find that two button control weird.
it's the original control method. What's wierd is "up for jump" for most amiga platformers
That´s what I meant. ;-) It is nearly unplayable for me with that kind of Joystick control. I never got used to a 2-button Joystick.
Because of the ladders, it would need some extra logic to replicate what Elite originally did for amiga Ghosts'N'Goblins. Personally I found the controls super frustrating with 1 button.

good! I'd like to hear about it.

JOTD, the King of conversions
Fantastic! Only thing is on RetroArch PUA core the cheats are not working.
Awesome!

Awesome!
Great improvement in v0.93. I'm very pleased to see your progress so far.
can you point to a .lha file that works? I don't know AGS.
Version 0.93 works now ! Thank you very much !
Had to increase the Chip RAM to 8 MB. Game looks fantastic !
Oh, and can you add paying by credit card ? Because here in Thailand you can only have PayPal if you have a business here.
about the payment, I don't have a say on how itch.io handles things. No worries, enjoy the game.
That´s strange !
I bought many games on itch.io and everytime there was a credit card option.
I've configured stripe, it should work in a few days using credit card

expected: AGA 64 bit wide scrolling does that. Until I fix a fix (is there a fix?)
Guys, force the game to NTSC 60Hz mode via tooltype. It scrolls much smoother than. You cut a bit of the bottom though. :-)
Wow very nice , will there be a A500mini version down the line?
if someone packages it, probably. I don't know about the A500 mini, but there game comes as .lha with whdload, which the A500 mini supports well. I'm pretty sure someone can help you out.
very good
Incredible work!
How about Wanderer or Ninja Spirit? 🥰
Wanderer conversion is already worked on :)
The heck? Released already? the speed in which you do these conversions is unreal. I hate it; it makes me feel lazy. Brilliant conversion! bought.
ps. How did you make SFX + Music work in the end?
thanks. The SFX are played mainly on channel 3, where less important notes of the song are played, using priorities. Important but rare sfx like xtra life are played on channel 2. It still needs some tuning but getting there.
Awesome!

another belter. Amazing 🤩
awesome mate, Mr Do in the future?
