Hi JOTD, love your conversions! Elevator Action is an all-time favorite!
Any chance this can work on THEA500 Mini? I've tried several different configs but haven't managed to get it working yet. Mostly getting Guru Mediation errors.
So it occurred to me I did have a way to probably make it work, and it turns out I was correct. Using AMINIMIGAv1 and extracting the files form the LHA, I was able to launch it from Workbench on the Mini. So it CAN work, it may just be that the built-in config options on the Mini aren't enough.
great! I don't know the mini but I know they took extra care of including a lot of licensed whdload installs. Other unknown whdload installs you have to manage yourself. That one requires a lot of memory, maybe that's the issue.
I see, ya AMINIMIGA is (was?) an effort to bring WB to the Mini. I tried some configs with a lot of Fast RAM, including the max (2MB Chip, 8 Fast) and still get a GM Error (technically it says "Software Failure", but looks like a GM):
Error: 8000 0003 Task: 00217C20
I have found that some games work better/more stably when launched from WB, it probably allows for better detection of necessary resources etc.
I see, ya one of the secrets of AMINIMIGA is that it uses custom config files (so you can't use the Mini's Configurator features or it will overwrite them). It sets up several HD paths, and also relies pretty heavily on WHDLoad, so I assume it has a custom WHD setup. I also see it gives WB 16MB of Chipmem (0 Fast). So could be the mem, or the custom setup, or a combo thereof :)
Excellent conversion!! It has some minor graphical glitches, like the first boss; when you hit him, he disappears halfway, from the waist down, for several seconds. Otherwise, it seems relatively fine, aside from some occasional minor video refresh issues. Grade: Graphics: 89 Sound: 87 Gameplay: 90 Playability: 87 👏
Ottima conversione !! Voto= grafica:89 Sonoro: 87 Giocabilita': 90 Longevita': 87 👏
you mean a ECS version that holds in 1MB and looks washed out? well there's the original game. I'm really not sure that an ECS version will bring something interesting. It will require fastmem too, and will have washed down colors worse than the original. Plus all HUD will have to be re-done. Lots of work for a disappointing result.
EHB would need special processing of the palette (color quantize would not work) and we'd lose the sprites OSD & background layers in stages 4 and 6. Plus no AGA means 16-bit fetch not 64. Seems a lot of trouble for a not so good result.

I have FS-UAE as a fallback at least :)

Thanks again for your awesome ports! :)
This one is special: it only runs from whdload. The original exe isn't protected against direct run but it should, as it's not runnable.

Hey, I hope you don't mind, but I featured your game in my new Amiga games video

this looks like a very positive review. Could you post in english? thanks.
adf version ? thankyu
this is whdload only sorry
all good, thanks
Just bought. Thanks for this great job !
We discuss on Youtube some months earlier, about this port. Especially on sound and code.
I'm still curious about 2 or 3 things regarding sound and code. May be not the good place to exchange... Let me know ?
Anyway, THANKS (bad)DUDE ! ;)
is the address of your profile a real one? I could send you an e-mail.
Yup, crisis@.... is my real email address. =)
great work, but 2nd button jump doesn't seem to work. Including CD32 control pad. Any tips?
You are right. But the new 1.01 version has 2nd button working. I just tested on real hardware :)
Great game, thanks.
very good
Awesome game. Thank you, merci.
Thanks. Great work.
Any chance for jump on long or double joystick press? It would help playing with a one button joystick.
If it's easy I'll add the option
Awesome game!
Nice! Will test it tonight
Thanks for releasing this one! How are the chances for an ECS version?
you mean a ECS version that holds in 1MB and looks washed out? well there's the original game. I'm really not sure that an ECS version will bring something interesting. Well, you could indeed use 1 (or even 2) MB ChipRAM. But yes, you would need to shrink the colour palette from 256 to 32 colours.
it's not even 256 colors it's 64 colors. 256 colors would be 1) too slow and 2) too memory expensive. So using 32 colors would be just dividing by 2.
So EHB could be an option?
EHB would need special processing of the palette (color quantize would not work) and we'd lose the sprites OSD & background layers in stages 4 and 6. Plus no AGA means 16-bit fetch not 64. Seems a lot of trouble for a not so good result.
